SUMMARY:Celebration of Wade's Life
DESCRIPTION:Wade Blanchard Obituary\n\nIt is with extremely heavy hearts we announce the passing of Wade Michael Blanchard on Friday\, May 9th\, 2025\, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Windsor\, NS\, on March 3\, 1959\, he was the son of Mike and Bernice Blanchard. \nBesides his parents\, Wade is survived by his loving wife Judy of 40 years\, and his wonderful children: Zac (Jennifer)\, Luke\, and Kayla; his precious granddaughters: Eva and Lily; siblings\, Shelley (Jim)\, Belinda Baird (Austin)\, Patrick\, Jason (Debbie)\, and Ben (Melanie); sister-in-law: Edie von Richter; brother-in-law: Gary von Richter; as well as nieces and nephews: Tony (MC)\, Brian (Kailey)\, Jessica (Shelby)\, David (Gabi)\, Emily (Justin)\, Nic (Gillian)\, Abby; and several grand nieces and nephews. \nWade grew up in Nova Scotia and moved to Rothesay in 1978. He worked for Willett Foods\, The Food Group\, Pete’s Frootique\, and then E&J Gallo Winery – where he retired from in 2024. \nThe most important thing to Wade was his family who meant everything to him! He was a wonderful husband\, father\, grandfather\, and friend\, and will be greatly missed. Wade loved the outdoors and took pride in keeping his home and yard looking pristine. When he could be convinced to take a break from his yard\, garden or BBQ\, he and Judy enjoyed many walks together. Wade and Judy spent many summer evenings by their pool\, always happy to host any and all friends and family in search of a swim and a beverage. Their home was a center for many celebrations\, prompted by any recent curling event or family milestone\, and everyone knew to expect many friends and too much food. \nWade was also a competitive curler and attended three Briers\, one Mixed National Championship and four Senior Championships as well as one Masters. In 2013\, he joined his teammates (Mike\, Wayne\, Mike\, Chuck and Coach Bill) and won the Canadian Championships\, and then the World Championships in 2014. Wade has been inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame\, Saint John Sports Hall of Fame as well as the New Brunswick Curling Hall of Fame. Wade also enjoyed the non-competitive side of curling\, playing in the Tuesday night Superleague and Thursday night men’s league as well as curling with Judy in mixed leagues. He always enjoyed the social times after the game sharing stories with his many friends at Thistle St. Andrews.  Wade was heavily involved in TSA including serving on the Board of Directors and the Riverboat Committee as well as being Captain # 31. For many years he managed the Tuesday Night Super League and recently chaired the “Banner Committee” and now National and Provincial banners are displayed for everyone to see. \nThe family would like to thank Dr. Tutschka\, Dr. Agila\, Ruth\, and all the exceptional nurses of ICU that kept Wade comfortable and supported the family until the end. \nA Celebration of Wade’s Life will be held at the Thistle St. Andrews Curling Club on June 21st from 6pm – 9pm. For those who wish to make donations\, they may be made to Thistle St. Andrews Curling Club in Wade’s Memory (for capital projects) during the Celebration of Life or by e-transferring the club at tsa@nb.aibn.com. Memorial donations can also be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or MS Society\, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
